Geoscience Australia as the Australian Government lead agency, is working in collaboration with Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand on the development, deployment, and operation of SouthPAN, the first SBAS in the Southern Hemisphere.SouthPAN is a Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) comprised of reference stations, telecommunications infrastructure, computing centres, signal generators, and satellites that provide improved positioning and navigation services in Australia, New Zealand, and its maritime region.SouthPAN has an expected value of $7.6 billion over 30 years for Australia and New Zealand, based on the tested applications of the program.For more information, please visit Southern Positioning Augmentation Network (SouthPAN) | Geoscience Australia.The roleThe Project Risk Manager is responsible for managing the SouthPAN Integrated Risk Register for the SouthPAN Program and coordination of risk management activities across the SouthPANs sub-projects. This role includes optimising the SouthPAN Integrated Risk Register against industry best practice to ensure that all risks, issues and opportunities are understood and effectively managed; facilitating risk management workshops to gather input from cross functional stakeholders; performing risk analysis using common methodologies (i.e. bow-tie analysis); and supporting management and governance forums through providing executive level briefing and advice. The Project Risk Manager reports to the SouthPAN Project Manager and is part of the virtual project team located across Canberra and Wellington. They will work closely with cross functional stakeholders including project officers, systems engineers, and external project stakeholders.In this role you will:• Provide expertise and technical knowledge in risk management to project management staff and stakeholders.• Contribute to the planning of short-term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives.• Assess Contractor performance through detailed risk analysis.• Facilitate cross functional risk workshops to support managing the living nature of project risks through the Project Integrated Risk Register.• Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented risk controls.• Conduct executive level briefing and routine risk reporting.• Work as part of a multidisciplinary virtual team across Australia and New Zealand.To be successful in the role you will:• Apply your experience and knowledge of risk management to provide advice and support to the Project team.• Manage the routine updating of the Project Integrated Risk Register to ensure that risks, issues and opportunities are effectively and actively managed, are an accurate reflection of reality and support decision making.• Source and apply information on standards based approaches (i.e. ISO31000 Risk Management) or best practice approaches adopted in both the public and private sectors.• Integrated risk controls into the SouthPAN task management system (JIRA) to support active management of controls.• Collaborate internally to seek cross functional input in the development of the Integrated Risk Register and supporting artefacts.• Monitor the Project and risks/issues/opportuntieis against devised plans; manage priorities and support continual improvement of risk management approaches.• Identify issues and problems and work to resolve them; identify risks and uncertainties and communicate these to the Project team.Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications• Relevant certifications and/qualifications in the field of project management (e.g. PRINCE2 / MSP / Diploma level or higher).• 2-3+ years of experience working in government capital acquisition/procurements or private sector equivalent projects.• Demonstrated experience, application or understanding of risk management frameworks, tools or techniques in project environments.• Demonstrated experience with the use of task planning software including JIRA, MS Planner or equivalent and Microsoft Office 365 suite of tools.• Foundational understanding of the System Engineering Life Cycle.Are you unsure about applying?Did you know that a Hewlett Packard internal report found that men apply for jobs when they meet an average of 60 per cent of the job requirements?
