Freight Warehouse Manager – Role Overview
This is a hands‑on warehouse leadership position responsible for day‑to‑day warehouse administration, operational performance, compliance and team management. The role includes responsibility for Customs ETSF operations, container handling, Health & Safety, and continuous improvement across two warehouse sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, supervise and coordinate daily warehouse activities (inbound/outbound)
* Manage devanning, palletising, storage, stock movement and order fulfilment
* Oversee ETSF customs‑controlled operations, ensuring correct process flow and documentation
* Maintain efficient workflows while managing peak volumes and tight deadlines
Team Leadership & Management
* Manage warehouse operatives (team of 15), including rotas, task assignment, training and performance reviews
* Support recruitment and onboarding of new warehouse staff
* Maintain a high‑performance culture aligned with company values
Compliance & H&S
* Ensure full compliance with HMRC ETSF regulations and off‑loading permissions
* Conduct Health & Safety risk assessments, toolbox talks, incident investigations
* Maintain warehouse in line with H&S, fire safety, security and equipment inspection standards
Administration & Reporting
* Oversee daily warehouse admin, including WMS updates, inbound/outbound logs, stock reporting
* Liaison with customs team, transport team and external authorities
* Monitor KPIs: productivity, accuracy, turnaround time, space utilisation, labour planning
Felixstowe Expansion Duties
* Assist in establishing workflow, processes, staffing and equipment set‑up for the Felixstowe site
* Provide operational support between both sites as required
Skills & Experience Required
* Minimum 5 years warehouse management or supervisory experience
* Strong knowledge of Customs ETSF processes and customs‑controlled areas
* Proven leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams
* Good understanding of Health & Safety (ISO/HSE certified desirable but not essential)
* Experience working in a container‑handling logistics environment
* Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail
* Competent in warehouse IT systems and Microsoft Office
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced logistics environment
* Flexible to support operations at multiple locations
