As a skilled craftsman in aluminium and steel boat construction, you will be responsible for overseeing the building of new vessels, as well as refits and repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensuring dry docks and slipways are accurately referenced and that all necessary equipment is functioning properly
* Assembling the shells of boats and erecting hull sections of ships
* Conducting pre-launch tests, ensuring launch platforms are correctly set up and reviewing the launch procedures
* Fitting and installing masts, frames, decking, fittings, machines, shafts, and safety equipment to precise specifications
* Determining repair requirements and implementing correct procedures
* Fabricating and repairing vessels using various materials such as aluminium, wood, glass, reinforced plastics, carbon fibre, kevlar, fibreglass, and concrete
* Selecting appropriate fabrication equipment or methods based on requirements and adhering to strict welding procedures
* Setting up components for fabrication according to precise specifications
* Operating machinery and power tools to prepare parts for welding
* Performing manual or semi-automatic welding operations in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
* Carrying out works in confined spaces and at heights - certificates preferred but not mandatory
* Inspecting welded surfaces and structures for flaws and maintaining equipment and working areas in a safe and clean condition following WPHS & QHSE guidelines
Requirements:
* AQF Certificate III with at least two years of on-the-job training or AQF Certificate IV
* At least 3 years of proven experience as a boat builder
* Experience with various welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, etc.)
* Proficiency in electrical or manual tools
* Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
* Knowledge of relevant safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face shield, gloves, etc.)
* Professional certification in Lloyd's, DNV, ABS is an added advantage
