About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, this role is accountable for setting the direction and integrity of the organisation's OHS framework and roadmap. You will provide independent oversight, expert advice, and constructive challenge to ensure our systems, controls, and practices are effective and compliant.
This is a strategic and governance-focused role you will design and establish frameworks, standards, and initiatives, then transition implementation to the OHS team while maintaining oversight and assurance.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design and establishment of OHS frameworks, systems, standards, and controls
* Define governance structures and maturity expectations for the OHS management system
* Drive the setup of strategic OHS initiatives, including scope, outcomes, and accountabilities
* Provide ongoing oversight, guidance, and challenge to support effective implementation
* Monitor compliance, audit outcomes, and performance data to identify risks and improvement priorities
* Provide independent advice to the GM and executive on OHS risk, performance, and emerging issues
* Lead major, cross-organisational OHS projects and initiatives.

You are a highly experienced OHS professional with strong expertise in governance, compliance, and system design. You bring a strategic mindset, with the ability to influence at senior levels and drive organisation-wide improvement.
You are comfortable operating independently, providing assurance and challenge, and enabling others to deliver outcomes rather than leading operational execution.

Requirements
Key Selection Criteria
* Senior-level experience in work health and safety, ideally within complex or regulated environments.
* Demonstrated experience designing and governing OHS management systems rather than solely delivering operational safety activities.
* Deep working knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice and regulatory expectations.
* Proven ability to translate legal and technical requirements into practical, usable frameworks and guidance.
* Experience leading audits, regulatory interactions and complex compliance matters.
* Strong influencing skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and provide independent, credible advice at executive level.
* Highly developed judgement, with a clear focus on risk, proportionality and organisational maturity.
* Ability to work collaboratively with operational safety teams without duplicating or diluting accountability
Other Requirements
* Relevant tertiary qualification in Occupational/ Work Health and Safety, Safety Science, Risk Management or a related discipline (required).
* Postgraduate qualification in OHS, WHS or Risk Management (desirable).
* Police Check
* Working with Children Check
* Drivers' Licence
* First Aid Level II and CPR
