The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking applications for a Senior Registrar (O&G) Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) vacancy for 2027.
Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is Tasmania's largest hospital and major referral centre. The Women's and Children's Service at RHH offers a comprehensive service including 24‐hour labour ward coverage, with over 2000 births per annum.
This is an opportunity for a Level 5 or 6 trainee with an interest in ultrasound and high‐risk obstetrics to undertake advanced training in the public and private sector. Ultrasound training in obstetrics and gynaecology will be provided at RHH and Women's Imaging. Obstetric skills will be advanced through the care of high‐risk pregnancies, in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) clinics and on the labour ward.
The position is aimed at trainees who would like to commence the DDU (Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound, Obstetrics and Gynaecology) and who are considering subspecialty training (CMFM or COGU) or who wish to remain generalists with a special interest.
In addition to clinical duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and coordination of multidisciplinary meetings, including the perinatal morbidity and mortality meeting and the perinatal management group meeting. The rostered timetable and duties will include:
* Obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound training – Women's Imaging, Hobart, and MFM Clinics, Wellington Clinics, RHH
* Labour ward management – RHH
* High Risk Antenatal Clinic, Obstetric Endocrine Clinic – Wellington Clinics, RHH
Administration sessions for meeting preparation and/or dedicated research time.
Qualifications & Requirements
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration where applicable.
* Conviction checks: Crimes of Violence, Sex‐Related Offences, Serious Drug Offences, Crimes involving dishonesty.
* Identification check.
* Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
Period of Employment
Fixed term, full time, day work, 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro‐rata), commencing 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028. Up to 24‐month contract negotiable.
Applicants may be considered for full‐time, part‐time or casual vacancies for a period of twelve months from the date of publication of this selection process.
The Registrar is responsible for day‐to‐day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients and provides after‐hours emergency cover.
