Salary: $60,000–$70,000 AUD per year base package (including 11.5% superannuation)

We are an experienced and specialized metalwork engineering company based in Sydney. Our focus is on the fabrication and installation of high-quality balustrades, handrails, swimming pool fences, bollards, gates, and custom metalwork. We pride ourselves on precision, customization, and building long-term relationships with builders, suppliers, and clients.

Role Overview

We're looking for a driven Estimating & Business Development Manager / Project Sales Engineer to join our growing team. This hybrid role combines pricing commercial construction projects with managing schedules, cost tracking, and coordination for fabrication and installation—while also building new business through relationship management and strategic quoting.

You will be actively pursuing larger jobs by:

Targeting & obtaining builder/project team information and quoting the project

Following up closely and giving each project and client the necessary attention, effort, and care to build trust and long-term relationships

Building the specific relationships required to win larger projects

Pricing up tenders

Your focus will be on delivering competitive and accurate estimates while also cultivating strong client relationships that result in consistent project wins. This role plays a critical part in both business development and project success.

Key Focus of the Role

This role is designed to support our project team (primarily working alongside with Senior Commercial Estimator) while actively targeting, quoting, and closing larger commercial contracts over $200k.

While our team performs strongly on live projects up to $200k, we've recently missed opportunities on jobs valued at $400k and $700k. Your primary objective will be to help us quote more high-value projects and convert them into wins.

You'll be responsible for:

Reaching out to key builders and project teams

Quoting and following up on high-value tenders

Building strong client relationships through consistent communication and care

Developing rapport with builders we want to work with

Pricing tenders (not just live jobs), ensuring we are involved early and well-positioned to win

We have the experience, skills, and capacity to deliver these projects—we just need dedicated support to build the right relationships and proactively pursue these higher-value opportunities.

Responsibilities

Create competitive quotes from first principles (materials, fixings, processing, labour, etc.)

Prepare take-offs and markups from architectural drawings/plans

Price and negotiate best-value residential and commercial projects

Win a consistent pipeline of awarded work per week (KPI-driven)

Communicate with stakeholders (Owners, Builders, Architects, Site Teams, Suppliers)

Generate leads and identify new opportunities

Work closely with the operations team throughout all stages of the project

Monitor and report on project progress, including planned vs. actual costs

Skills & Experience Required

Minimum 1 year of estimating experience for balustrades, handrails, fencing, or metalworks

Strong ability to prepare "first principle" estimates for projects ranging from $2,000 to $1,000,000

Proven success working with builders, suppliers, and stakeholders

Solid cost planning and reporting experience

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills

Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Experience with construction scheduling and cost tracking tools is a plus
