**The Role**
The Project Conservator will initially support the Mural Project team in the preservation and repair of the major artwork by Harold Freedman, Mural of Australian Military Aircraft, from February 2025 to March 2026. The work will include survey, treatment, repair and documentation of the mural and will be completed at height using a combination of elevated work platforms and scaffolding. The conservator will contribute to the development and implementation of processes and techniques; document work performed and work collaboratively with other conservators, researchers and stakeholders. This position will also provide reporting and other project support work on varied complex project tasks and contribute to other team, section and Memorial activities.
**Core Responsibilities**
- Under the professional supervision of the Senior Conservator - Paintings, use established and innovative techniques and procedures to carry out conservation treatments, preservation and repairs on the mural and other projects
- Document, plan and report on project work and outcomes
- Undertake research on the preservation aspects of the mural and other projects where required
- Contribute to the development and implementation of conservation techniques and processes for the project
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including Exhibitions, Communications, Media and Marketing, Memorial Development and Building Services as well as other internal stakeholders to deliver a successful project
- Work in conservation labs will also be required which may include treatments, condition reporting, documentation, research and analysis.
