What does the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service do? Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) volunteers play a significant and vital role in helping to ensure their local communities are safe. Volunteers carry out a range of activities including:
* Responding to local emergencies, such as: structure fires; bush and scrub fires; road crash rescues; and hazardous material emergencies.
* Working with the community to identify and manage local fire risk.
* Undertaking local fire prevention activities with the community.
* Educating school children in fire safety.

Responsibilities
* Participating in training and drills.
* Attending brigade meetings regularly.
* Maintaining appliances, equipment and personal protective equipment.
* Attending fires, road crash rescue and hazardous material incidents whenever possible.
* Maintaining a reasonable level of fitness appropriate to the tasks allocated.

Training
We train every Tuesday evening with occasional weekend courses and exercises throughout the year.
