About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Battlefield Telecommunications Network Engineer to support the Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) within Army Headquarters.
This role sits within the LNIC Validate Team, responsible for delivering systems-of-systems integration, test, and evaluation activities across the Land Combat System (LCS). The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, building, and integrating deployable communications networks to support Army capability outcomes across Joint and Coalition environments.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, combining network engineering, SATCOM integration, and battlefield communications expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Network Engineering & Integration
* Design, build, configure, and test deployable mission network WANs and LANs
* Integrate communication systems across bearer, network, and cryptographic domains
* Support deployment and operation of wide area network (WAN) technologies including:
o SATCOM (FDMA / TDMA)
o IPv4 / IPv6 networking
o Voice and video delivery systems
* Configure and manage routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
Systems Integration & Test
* Conduct systems-of-systems integration activities across the Land Combat System (LCS)
* Build and validate mission network configurations prior to operational deployment
* Support test and evaluation activities within the LNIC Battle Lab environment
* Develop and test network prototypes to inform capability and design decisions
Architecture & Technical Advice
* Contribute to the design of network topologies and integration architectures
* Provide technical advice across:
o Deployable WANs and bearer systems
o Command and Control (C2) systems
o Joint and Coalition network interfaces
* Support Land Integration Framework – Digital (LIF-D) initiatives
Training & Stakeholder Engagement
* Deliver technical training to Army personnel and support teams
* Provide Level 1 and Level 2 support during Defence exercises and activities
* Collaborate with ADF, APS, and industry stakeholders to achieve integration outcomes
Innovation & Capability Development
* Identify and assess emerging technologies to support future Land capability
* Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation within the LNIC environment
* Support development and sustainment of the Land Network Battle Lab
Required Experience & Skills
Essential
* Proven experience in Defence communications and network engineering environments
* Strong hands-on experience with:
o Routing and switching (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP)
o SATCOM systems and deployable communications
o WAN/LAN design and configuration
* Experience working with:
o RF, bearer systems, and tactical communications networks
o Secure network environments and IP-based systems
* Demonstrated ability to:
o Build, configure, and test mission-critical networks
o Identify technical risks and implement solutions
o Produce technical documentation and design artefacts
Desirable
* Experience within Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) or similar environments
* Knowledge of Land Combat Systems (LCS) and Defence integration frameworks
* Experience in systems integration, test & evaluation, or battle lab environments
* Familiarity with Joint and Coalition interoperability requirements
* Previous ADF experience or Defence project exposure
