Passenger Ticketing Assistant Recruitment

Be part of the team that keeps Perth moving - become a passenger ticketing assistant with the Public Transport Authority

Are you a people person and enjoy working in a dynamic public-facing role? The PTA is looking for passenger ticketing assistants to help keep Perth moving.

As a passenger ticketing assistant, you'll be the friendly face assisting commuters across the Transperth network. Working under the guidance of the passenger services manager and station coordinators, you'll provide excellent customer service while ensuring smooth and efficient station operations.

What you'll do
* Help passengers with the use of fare gates, ticketing machines and Transperth services
* Provide up-to-date information on train and bus schedules, travel options and station facilities
* Monitor fare gates, check ticket validity and issue infringements when required
* Use equipment such as two-way radios, control booths and public address systems
* Complete administrative tasks and use computer systems to prepare reports
* Work with security and other staff to keep people safe and respond to incidents
* Report maintenance or security concerns to keep stations safe, clean and operational
* Help passengers during service disruptions and emergency situations
* Support the team and our passengers around special events such as the Royal Show and Optus Stadium events
What we're looking for

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

* Previous experience in a customer service role
* Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
* A flexible approach to working within rotational rosters
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
* Confidence in handling ticketing, revenue protection, and station operations
* Work in a fast-paced and engaging environment
* Make a real difference in the daily journeys of Perth commuters
* Benefit from on-the-job training and development opportunities
* Be part of a team that values safety, professionalism and service excellence
What does the passenger ticketing assistant role involve?

The passenger ticketing assistant role is a full-time, customer-facing position requiring flexibility to work early mornings, late shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Shifts include fare gate, platform and event duties across the network. Afternoon and evening shifts are mainly based within the Perth precinct and at major event locations such as Perth Stadium. You'll work alongside supervisors, customer service assistants and transit officers during these times.

This is an active role that involves standing for extended periods, so this should be carefully considered when applying for this role.

Where will I be based?

New passenger ticketing assistants are initially based at Perth Station and assigned to a Perth metropolitan rail line. You'll start and finish shifts along your assigned line but may be required to work anywhere across the Transperth suburban network (shift penalties apply).

Transfers to other stations are managed via a waitlist as positions become available. Certain work locations may have extended wait times, so please consider your long-term commuting requirements when applying for this role.

What is the roster?

Most Perth-based rosters support afternoon, evening and weekend shifts, including event work. Rosters may change based on operational needs, with opportunities to move to other rosters depending on performance and vacancies.

Will I work across special events?

Yes. Supporting special events is a regular part of the role with most events taking place on or around weekends. Large events such as AFL matches are scheduled ahead of time, while other events, particularly concerts, can be confirmed at shorter notice.

WhencanI apply for the role?

We typically open passenger ticketing assistant recruitment several times a year based on operational needs across the network. Our next intake is planned for mid‐May‐2026. Recruitment updates will be posted on this webpage, and you can register your interest below to be notified as soon as applications open.
