We have partnered with a highly regarded commercial mechanical/HVAC contractor in Melbourne with a strong, stable pipeline of work. They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator or Estimating Manager to enhance their tendering capability and support smooth project handovers.
The business is relationship-driven with excellent staff retention and offers real variety across commercial refurbishments/fit-outs, high-rise developments, and complex live environments (including hospitals and operational sites).
This role can flex to Estimator or Estimating Manager level depending on your experience and qualifications (engineering degree highly regarded for Manager position).
You will take full ownership of estimating and tendering for commercial mechanical/HVAC packages, typically $100k–$8M in value, contributing to continued project wins and effective transition to delivery teams.
Key responsibilities:
* End-to-end estimating and tender preparation for commercial mechanical/HVAC projects
* Detailed scope review, analysis of drawings, BOQs, specifications, and client clarifications
* Coordination of subcontractor pricing, supplier quotations, and specialist input
* Development of clear assumptions, inclusions/exclusions, risk registers, and value engineering opportunities
* Preparation of robust tender submissions with strong commercial acumen (margin analysis, risk mitigation)
* Support clean handover to Project Managers and operations teams
* Contribute to improving tender turnaround times and reducing leadership involvement
About you:
* Proven experience in commercial mechanical estimating, HVAC estimating, or building services estimating
* Strong ability to interpret scopes, BOQs, drawings, and subcontractor packages accurately
* Solid commercial understanding – margins, risk management, scope clarity, and value engineering
* Collaborative communicator who works well with delivery teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders
* Engineering degree or equivalent highly regarded (especially for Estimating Manager level)
* Attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and ability to manage multiple tenders

* Estimator level: $100,000 – $130,000 + super (depending on experience)
* Estimating Manager level: $110,000 – $140,000 + super (higher end with engineering degree or senior capability)
