Position Purpose The Vehicle Painter is responsible for preparing, refinishing, painting, and finishing vehicle surfaces to professional standards.
The role ensures accurate color matching, defect-free finishes, and smooth workflow coordination within the workshop.
This position is essential in maintaining the business's reputation for premium-quality results and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare, clean, and condition vehicle surfaces by removing old paint coatings, contaminants, and minor surface imperfections.
• Sand panels using hand and power tools to create smooth surfaces suitable for primer, base coat, and clear coat application.
• Mask vehicle areas to prevent overspray and ensure clean, precise lines.
• Mix and match paint colors accurately for factory-correct or custom finishes.
• Apply primer, base coat, and clear coat using spray-gun techniques in a controlled environment.
• Perform intermediate sanding, blending, and feathering between coats to ensure consistent finish quality.
• Polymer, buff, polish, and refine painted surfaces to remove defects and achieve a premium finish.
• Identify and correct paint defects such as orange peel, runs, dust nibs, and color variation.
• Maintain painting equipment, including spray guns, mixing systems, filters, and extraction systems.
• Follow workshop safety procedures, including PPE use, ventilation requirements, and chemical handling guidelines.
• Work collaboratively with detailing and coating specialists to coordinate workflow and complete jobs efficiently.
• Record job progress, paint usage, and finishing notes as required by workshop procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
• Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in automotive painting or refinishing.
• Demonstrated ability in color matching, spray-gun operation, and refinishing techniques.
• Strong knowledge of paint adhesion, curing processes, and vehicle refinishing systems.
• High level of attention to detail with the ability to produce consistent, high-quality finishes.
• Ability to work effectively with detailers, coating specialists, and workshop staff.
