About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate, Middle Office professional to join a MUFG in Sydney or Melbourne. This pivotal role is designed for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about supporting the growth and efficiency of credit middle office functions. As the business continues to expand in both transaction volume and complexity, your expertise will be instrumental in shaping robust processes, enhancing risk controls, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
* Play a key role in leading credit middle office operations for a growing Oceania branch, supporting process improvements and risk management initiatives that are critical to business success.
* Collaborate closely with cross‐functional teams including Credit Management, Relationship Managers, Product Partners, Operations, Compliance, and Risk to deliver efficiencies and foster strong working relationships.
What you'll be doing:
* Lead the delivery of credit‐related middle office functions by managing resources supporting the credit stream and acting as the main point of contact for credit‐related escalations, credit data management and reporting, and credit process control and review.
* Confidently oversee Oceania's risk reporting obligations by coordinating with regional partners and ensuring accurate incident reporting and compliance with head office requirements.
* Support the creation, implementation, and ongoing management of new Post Close Control Check initiatives aimed at improving incident management and remediation as part of broader risk control strategies.
* Drive the migration of reporting tasks to regional hubs while identifying opportunities for automation, cost savings, and enhanced operational efficiency within the middle office.
* Work collaboratively with senior leaders on credit‐related projects involving capital allocation, regulatory reporting, covenants management, or process changes—formulating solutions and leading their implementation.
* Act as the primary liaison with offshore support teams (MGS), ensuring effective communication and delivery of credit processes across regions.
* Contribute to designing roles and responsibilities frameworks for client services processes within the Oceania branch by challenging existing structures and supporting process improvements across departments.
* Document middle office procedures into comprehensive manuals for front office use while assisting in developing presentations, business communications, and process maps for new or enhanced tasks.
* Provide training and guidance to new team members joining the credit stream or MGS teams while fostering a positive team environment focused on shared goals.
* Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders such as Operations, Compliance, Planning, Finance, Legal, as well as external customers when required.
What we are looking for:
* Demonstrated experience (3‐5 years) working within a bank's middle office function or related areas such as credit & portfolio management, relationship banking, lending operations; candidates from chartered accounting firms or advisory houses are also encouraged to apply.
* A degree in Business, Commerce or Law from a leading university is essential; postgraduate qualifications such as Masters of Finance, MBA or CFA are highly regarded.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills; strong written and verbal communication abilities are crucial for effective stakeholder engagement.
* Solid understanding of banking products/services coupled with sound mathematical knowledge; proven ability to conduct independent research & analysis on customers/markets using critical thinking skills.
* Expertise in financial analysis including modelling and legal documentation relevant to debt structuring; intermediate skills in credit writing are expected.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset; able to build rapport across diverse teams while presenting information clearly during meetings or training sessions.
* Analytical mindset with keen attention to detail; adept at prioritising multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines without compromising quality.
* Experience supporting change management initiatives or project implementations within financial services environments is advantageous.
* Ability to work independently yet remain responsive and supportive within team settings; demonstrates initiative alongside enthusiasm for continuous learning.
