Senior Legal Professional
We are seeking a skilled legal professional to join our team in the administration of Council's land and property portfolio.
About the Opportunity:
This is a permanent full-time role based at the Melton Civic Centre, reporting to the Senior Lawyer and Property Advisor.
The successful candidate will contribute to specialist administration of Council's land and property portfolio in line with best practice, corporate policies and procedures, directives, and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide high-quality legal advice and services to the Council, Executive, and staff on a wide range of contractual, property, and administrative legal matters.
* Draft, review, and negotiate a range of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and leases.
* Keep abreast of relevant legislation and provide advice on changes and their implications, as they affect the Council.
* Manage legal risks and develop risk management strategies to ensure compliance with legal obligations.
* Brief external legal advisers on behalf of the Council for court proceedings and providing advocacy services where appropriate.
Requirements:
* Bachelor of Law degree from a recognised university and admission to practice as a lawyer in Victoria with a minimum of two years post-admission experience.
* Experience in interpreting legal matters in a Local Government context.
* Exposure to a minimum of two of the following areas: Property law, contracts, procurement, administrative law or prosecutions in a local government setting.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse legal issues and provide practical solutions.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
