 
        
        Overview 
Senior Town Planner role at Bendigo Advertiser. The position is with MAAS Group Holdings (ASX - MGH), a multi-national conglomerate with growth across Property Development, Civil Works, Plant Hire, Construction Materials, Electrical and Underground Mining & Tunnelling. The Senior Town Planner contributes to the delivery of MGP Residential projects within the Planning and Projects team, working in a fast-paced, team-oriented workplace on projects across regional NSW for MGH. The role is full-time and based in Newcastle with travel to sites as required. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of planning experience, can confidently manage external project teams, and negotiate positive outcomes aligned with the proposal objectives and MGP business unit goals. Prior consulting experience is favourable but not essential. 
Responsibilities 
- Interpret relevant local and state government planning strategies, policies, directions, and legislation. 
- Undertake desktop site analysis and research related to town planning provisions, development opportunities, and constraints. 
- Prepare Statements of Environmental Effects, coordinate supporting documentation and reports for proposed developments. 
- Coordinate fee proposals and supporting technical advice for various developments and approval pathways (DA, SWC, CDC, CC, SC). 
- Engage with consultants to provide advice and reporting deliverables on technical matters related to Development Applications to achieve MGP outcomes. 
- Design development, documentation, and management of projects and delivery as required. 
- Assess planning applications, analyze complex planning matters, and determine timely solutions. 
- Negotiate outcomes on applications considering applicants, community needs, and relevant planning provisions and legislation. 
- Communicate with management, staff, government agencies, non-government organisations, stakeholders, and the community in writing and verbally. 
- Build positive collaborative relationships and consult, negotiate, and communicate with stakeholders at all levels. 
- Review building and subdivision design documentation, drawings, and reports to ensure proposed development aligns with MGP aims and objectives. 
- Work independently while managing competing priorities. 
Qualifications 
- Tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or related field, or demonstrable equivalent experience. 
- Unrestricted Australian working rights. 
- Current Australian Driver’s License. 
- Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia. 
- Reading and understanding technical drawings and diagrams. 
- Comprehensive knowledge of the NSW planning system and development assessment process. 
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills, including ability to write complex reports in plain English.
