Our client is a leading international independent power producer (IPP) and renewable energy developer with a strong presence in Australia and across global markets. With a focus on utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage and hybrid systems, they are accelerating the energy transition by developing and delivering innovative, sustainable energy solutions.
As they expand their Australian operations, an opportunity has arisen for a Head of Engineering to lead and grow the local engineering function. This critical leadership role will drive technical excellence across a growing pipeline of renewable energy projects—from early concept through to execution and commissioning.
Location: Melbourne
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement the engineering strategy in alignment with national business goals and global technical standards.
* Lead, mentor and grow a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a culture of high performance and collaboration.
* Oversee engineering input across all renewable energy projects, ensuring technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with Australian regulations.
* Coordinate closely with global engineering colleagues to leverage internal expertise and standardised best practices.
* Monitor emerging technologies and market trends to ensure engineering solutions remain innovative and future-ready.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with development, procurement, construction, transactions, and finance teams to optimise project outcomes.
* Define and manage technical scopes, with consideration for bankability, risk, and commercial terms.
* Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the design and delivery lifecycle.
* Evaluate and manage external engineering partners, consultants, and technology providers as needed.
About You
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Energy, or related discipline) required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
* 10+ years of engineering experience in the renewable energy sector, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.
* Proven track record delivering large-scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, BESS or hybrid systems).
* Skilled in leading high-performing, cross-functional technical teams, ideally within a global or fast-scaling organisation.
* Strong understanding of grid connection, permitting, and environmental requirements in Australia.
* Demonstrated ability to implement engineering best practices and drive innovation.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
