About the Role
We are seeking a full-time Laboratory Assistant / Specimen Processor to join our Microbiology team on an evening shift (4:00 pm – 12:00 am). This role operates on a rotating schedule.
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform specimen setup and preparation (including urine, swabs, and faecal samples) in accordance with established departmental procedures, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and quality at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Adhere to laboratory policies, procedures, and quality standards
Prioritise and organise workflow safely and efficiently
Actively participate in specimen preparation, setup, and microscopy
Maintain and appropriately use laboratory equipment and instrumentation
Work under the direct supervision of the Supervising Scientist
Perform tasks as directed by the Medical Microbiologist and Supervising Scientist
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
Commit to rostered evening shifts, including weeknights and weekends
Skills and Experience
Australian citizenship or permanent residency
A Bachelor of Science or equivalent qualification
A valid Australian driver's licence and access to a car (essential)
At least one year of experience in bacteriology
Demonstrated experience in microscopy
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Strong verbal and written communication skills
A commitment to delivering accurate and timely clinical diagnostic microbiology results
