* Opportunity for an energetic field technician in environmental monitoring and assessment, including manual sampling and maintenance of automated monitoring stations for water, air and noise.
* Highly desired is practical experience in hydrography, science and/or electronics and instrument configuration.
* 4 day week - Monday to Thursday, with occasional coverage outside of these days.
* Based in the Mackay area, Queensland.
* We will provide on job training for a person with limited experience.
About the role:
As a member of the Mackay team, you will work with a number of clients to provide a high-quality scientific service in environmental assessment, with the opportunity to progress to supervise and manage projects.
The main responsibilities as part of the team will include:
* Field work – data collection, sample collection of water, dust and sediments; water testing; equipment installations, repairs, calibrations and fault diagnosis.
* The calibration, maintenance and repair of environmental monitoring equipment including water, air/dust and noise/vibration.
* Office based – technical report writing, data processing and calibration of water quality instruments.
* Requires overnight travel outside of the Mackay area within the week, typically 3 nights/week.

* Self-motivation, enthusiasm and can work well in a team or unsupervised.
* Sound observational and problem-solving skills.
* Competent computer skills, including the use of Word and Excel, and the ability to learn various computer programs.
* A current driver’s license and confidence to drive in remote locations and/or mine sites.
The successful applicants will be employed initially on a contract basis with a three-month probationary period. Permanency will be offered pending the outcome of a performance review. Remuneration will be based on qualifications and experience, and includes participation in the staff bonus scheme.
