Senior Research Agronomist
About the Opportunity:
The role of Senior Research Agronomist is a key position within our organisation, and we are seeking an experienced professional to lead our on-farm research initiatives. As a Senior Research Agronomist, you will be responsible for developing and conducting research projects, collaborating with stakeholders, and communicating findings to relevant parties.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement research projects, including setting milestones, preparing budgets, and managing project expenditure.
* Communicate effectively with staff, managers, clients, and stakeholders through various methods, including negotiation and report writing.
* Evaluate project outcomes and prepare reports for departmental and funding body publications.
* Allocate resources efficiently, manage competing demands, and handle human resource and operational issues within a dispersed multidisciplinary team.
* Support other Farming System Innovation team projects and contribute to a Departmental culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
Technical Requirements:
* Extensive knowledge of farming systems in Queensland and challenges to profitability and sustainability.
* Experience in field experimentation, from small plot to large commercial scale.
* Project management skills, with demonstrated ability to develop, manage, evaluate, and report on strategic research portfolios in complex organisational environments.
* Demonstrated ability to lead and participate effectively in multi-disciplinary research teams.
* Ability to initiate, conduct, manage, report, and publish scientific outcomes of rigorous field-based research using experimental and on-farm research methods.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with empathy for farmers and agronomists.
* Ability and willingness to travel, including overnight stays, to service research sites in south-western Queensland.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor degree or higher in Agricultural Science, Applied Science, or Rural Science.
* Broadacre dryland crop research and extension experience is highly desirable.
* C current 'C' class drivers licence (preferably manual) and desirably hold a truck licence.
