Role Description

Our Urban Development team is a rapidly growing team with a diverse portfolio of projects across Victoria. These include urban regeneration, master‐planned residential communities, large‐scale industrial developments and mixed‐use precincts. The team also supports growth in energy transition projects, data centres and social infrastructure (education and health).

Responsibilities

  • Lead urban development projects, providing technical direction, oversight and leadership to achieve programme, quality, financial and health & safety targets.
  • Manage end‐to‐end project delivery, including establishment and management of project programmes, milestones, reporting and stakeholder alignment.
  • Ensure effective financial and project management controls are in place, including forecasting, monitoring and performance tracking.
  • Maintain oversight of commercial aspects of projects, including contracts, invoicing, debt management and client performance.
  • Allocate and manage project resources, ensuring optimal utilisation aligned with project demand and pipeline.
  • Ensure risks are proactively identified, assessed and managed, escalating systemic issues where required and proposing solutions.
  • Drive project performance, governance and continuous improvement, ensuring delivery is consistently above client expectations.
  • Provide strong leadership to multidisciplinary teams, setting direction, engaging team members and leading by example.
  • Mentor, coach and develop staff, fostering a high‐performance culture focused on quality, accountability and collaboration.
  • Support professional development, knowledge sharing and technical capability growth across the team.
  • Contribute to performance management, development reviews and succession planning.
  • Act as a peer leader across Team Leads, driving consistency, alignment and continuous improvement across the business.
  • Provide leadership and expertise across projects, ensuring delivery of high‐quality, compliant and innovative solutions.
  • Deliver consultancy services that extend beyond standard codes and practices, driving innovation and value for clients.
  • Ensure the delivery of technically complete designs, documentation and reports that meet client and Arcadis standards.
  • Ensure technical reviews and quality assurance processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory, client and Arcadis requirements.
  • Maintain up‐to‐date knowledge of legislation and industry developments.
  • Build, maintain and strengthen long‐term client relationships, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities, contributing technical and commercial input into bids and proposals.
  • Provide advice and guidance to clients and stakeholders, supporting decision‐making and responding to changing project requirements.
  • Maintain strong communication with all stakeholders to ensure transparency on project status, risks and outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships across disciplines, teams and functions, promoting collaboration and integrated delivery.
  • Support resource planning and utilisation management, maintaining visibility of team capability and workload.
  • Contribute to achieving financial, utilisation and performance targets across the business.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience.
  • Chartered or registered engineer (e.g., CPEng or equivalent).
  • Extensive senior industry experience with urban development and regeneration design management.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a consulting environment with clear responsibility for technical & commercial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of technical, drafting and engineering staff both locally and internationally.
  • Proven ability to network and influence peers, as well as excellent communication and relationship building skills both internally and externally.
  • Relevant degree and/or qualification.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers and technical professionals.
  • Experience building client relationships and contributing to business development and work‐winning activities.
  • Strong understanding of planning, design and delivery processes, including relevant standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, disciplines and functions to deliver integrated outcomes.
