Our Vision for the Role:
Mike Carney Group is seeking a proactive and dedicated HR Safety and Compliance Officer to play a vital role in driving a positive safety culture and ensuring workplace compliance across our organisation. This full-time role is perfect for someone who is passionate about health, wellbeing, and governance and is ready to contribute to broader HR functions in a supportive and values-driven environment.
What You'll Do:
Lead the implementation of proactive WHS and compliance initiatives across the business
Oversee workplace safety programs, injury management, and Return to Work coordination
Conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and ensure legislative compliance
Support onboarding, staff inductions, and training with a safety-first focus
Develop and maintain HR and company wide SOPs, policies, and employee communications
Coordinate emergency preparedness drills and WHS risk management
Engage with internal teams and external regulators to ensure WHS best practices
Assist with cultural programs including the company's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
Experience and Education:
2+ years' experience in an OH&S, compliance, or safety-related role
Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS (or equivalent) highly regarded
Knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, codes of practice, and environmental standards
Experience with WorkCover processes and regulatory reporting
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Capability to lead and promote a positive safety culture across all departments
A collaborative mindset and passion for continuous improvement
You'll Stand Out If You Have:
Return to Work Coordinator accreditation
HLTPAT005 – Collect specimens for drug testing (within the last 2 years)
Experience supporting psychosocial risk management or wellbeing programs
Familiarity with digital WHS platforms and reporting tools
