Job Description:
This role involves working with animal welfare and community education. You will be responsible for shaping the future of animal management and community engagement.
As an Animal Care and Programs Officer, you will play a key role in delivering innovative education and volunteer programs, with a strong focus on animal care and stakeholder engagement.
You will work closely with government bodies, not-for-profits, and social enterprises to deliver programs that make a meaningful impact.
Key responsibilities include managing volunteer and foster care programs, delivering educational initiatives, training new team members, and ensuring all operations meet the highest standards of safety, care, and compliance.
You will also evaluate program effectiveness and stay up-to-date with legislative and industry changes to ensure our services remain relevant and responsive.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Minimum five years' experience in the animal care industry, with advanced knowledge in animal handling, behavioural assessments, and health management.
* Relevant qualifications such as a Certificate IV or Diploma in animal husbandry, animal behaviour, veterinary nursing, or equivalent industry experience.
* Flexibility to work Saturdays and extended hours when required.
* A current Queensland C class driver's licence.
* A valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or the ability to obtain one.
* Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
* Q Fever vaccination or willingness to be vaccinated.
* Ability to complete a Fit for Work Medical and a National Police Check.
* A strong track record of delivering high-quality, stakeholder-focused programs for government bodies, not-for-profit organisations, or social enterprises.
* Experience mentoring and training others, providing guidance to internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to effective daily operations.
* Demonstrated ability to identify areas for improvement, implement changes to enhance program delivery, and ensure a high standard of service and customer experience.
* Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written – including the ability to write reports, deliver presentations, and communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, including media where appropriate.
* High-level administrative and record-keeping skills, including accurate receipting and data management for animals in care.
