Economic Analyst



Location - Parramatta

Employment type – Ongoing full-time role

Salary - $113,574.00 pa - $125,720.00 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading





Your role



The Economic Analyst role is part of a broader analytical function supporting evidence‑driven policy, program design and service improvement across the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ). Sitting within the Economics & Evaluation team in FACSIAR, the role contributes high‑quality research, modelling and analysis that informs strategic decisions across diverse human‑services domains.



This is an opportunity to work on meaningful, real‑world policy challenges in areas such as child protection, early intervention, disability, housing and broader cross‑government initiatives, by applying your professional expertise and experience to rigorous analytical thinking to improve outcomes for the people of NSW.



What you’ll do



In this role you will deliver a mix of research, analytical and evaluations work to support policy, program and investment decisions. Day‑to‑day tasks may include analysing administrative and program data; conducting economic, actuarial, statistical or business analysis; developing models and analytical tools; contributing to program evaluations; preparing insights and advice for senior executives; and supporting frameworks that assess program performance, value for money and service effectiveness.



You will work both independently and collaboratively, contributing to shared projects while managing your own workflow with a degree of autonomy.



The Economics & Evaluation team brings together people from diverse analytical backgrounds who work collaboratively on complex, high‑impact problems. The team values intellectual curiosity, methodological rigour, and practical problem‑solving. We operate as a multidisciplinary environment that connects economics, evaluation, research, data analytical and modelling functions. You will join a supportive, flexible and engaging team culture that emphasises collaboration and high‑quality analytical delivery.



What we’re looking for



We are looking for someone with strong analytical skills, underpinned by qualifications or experience in a relevant discipline such as actuarial studies, economics, mathematics, statistics, data science or another quantitative or research‑focused field. You should bring experience in one or more of the following: applied analysis, modelling, evaluation, business insights, policy research, or quantitative problem‑solving.



You will be comfortable working with data and analytical tools, including Excel and have experience programming in relevant programming languages and statistical packages, such as R or Python (ideally), which the team has identified as desirable capabilities for this stream. Strong written communication skills are essential for translating complex analysis into clear, actionable insights for decision‑makers.



The ideal candidate works well in multidisciplinary teams, manages competing priorities effectively, and brings a collaborative, curious and outcome‑focused approach.
