What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Coordinator AFP National Media.
As a Coordinator within AFP National Media, you will be part of a dynamic team driving the AFP's strategic external communications and manage a high performing group of media professionals based within Canberra and across Australia and will report to the AFP Manager Media and Public Affairs.
You will work in partnership with the Minister's office and other Commonwealth and Jurisdictional stakeholders to develop and deliver media and communications materials to Australian and international media agencies as well as broader outreach strategies to make the AFP a household name.
Through a specialist range of skills, the branch works to ensure effective messaging with internal and external audiences about the AFP's priorities, initiatives, campaigns and operational successes.
You will play a key role in innovating systems and enhancing processes to deliver effective client-service, leadership and mentoring to help the team achieve its potential.
You will work under the strategic direction of the senior executive and are responsible for the leadership and management of a number of teams to deliver outcomes.
Executive Level employees must also ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.
What will you do?
Lead, manage, coach and mentor a range of team leaders, and media specialists.
Understand and create opportunities for optimal ideation/creative process.
Ensure teams have the equipment and support required to deliver projects effectively. Provide communications advice to AFP executive.
Ensure change management processes and procedures are executed effectively.
Manage and support the delivery of key media projects. This includes overseeing all phases of the project management lifecycle for major initiatives and cross-functional activities to ensure quality outputs achieve outcomes which are measured and are on time and budget.
Cultivate an environment of high performance, responsiveness and client service to position the centralised communication function as a centre of excellence.
Actively contribute to the focus and strategic direction of the AFP.
Oversee cross-functional procurement, finance and section reporting.
Manage complex media matters and responses, develop innovative media plans and broader strategies, which will deliver maximum impact for the organisation and its brand.
Directly engage with journalists to deliver media interviews and events; oversee the preparation of proactive media releases and reactive media responses, which will enhance the reputation of the AFP and the public's understanding of our work.
Maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as Australian and international media representatives, the Minister's Office, other Commonwealth partners and state and territory police forces.
Essential Requirements
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Proven ability to lead and engage high performing teams.
Extensive experience managing a multitude of stakeholders, projects and tasks simultaneously in a complex operating environment.
