Resident Director
Academic Programs International (API) is an organisation specialising in international education. Based in Austin, Texas in the United States, and offices in London and Paris, we partner with American universities to offer their students once in a lifetime experiential education programmes in Europe, Latin America and The Middle East. API programmes in Australia are currently located in Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane. For additional information view the API website at
API is seeking a Resident Director to work alongside our Australian, American and UK teams in managing our student study abroad programmes in Sydney. This role will be a part-time role on a fixed term contract. This is a hybrid role where prep work can be done from home (we do not have an office in Australia) however a lot of time will be spent out and about with the students. For the cultural events (which take place once every two weeks) this will be in and around Sydney. For the day trips and overnight trips (2 per semester) it will be to destinations such as the Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley. It is essential that students do not miss classes to attend these activities so these events may take place on weekends or evenings.
Reporting to the UK Managing Director, the Resident Director will assist with the planning, pricing, budgeting and organisation of API's cultural events and student orientation in Sydney. This will include, but is not limited to, physically leading the events; design and delivery of on-site orientations; organising and attending cultural activities, excursions and events for students and acting as a cultural coach to assist students in their cultural adaptation.
The Resident Director will also be responsible for supporting students throughout their time in Sydney, and managing student, parent, university and employer expectations while working to ensure high levels of customer service are maintained (e.g., by helping students navigate academic challenges, and connecting them with support resources). They will also be on call for students should there be an emergency. This job description is considered a guide to the position and should not be considered exhaustive.
