About the Role
You will play a critical role in enabling a productive, resilient and sustainable Australian economy. The Chief Information Officer Division (CIOD) delivers digital and enabling services that support departmental outcomes and Australian businesses.
DISR is seeking experienced Front‑end Developer / User Interface Designers with a strong dual skillset to support major digital initiatives across the Corporate and Digital Division. This role focuses on delivering human‑centred, accessible and intuitive digital services, balancing user needs, business objectives and technical constraints.
You will work within multi‑disciplinary agile teams, contributing across the full design and development lifecycle—from discovery and prototyping to implementation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
* Design and iterate user‑centred UI solutions based on research, testing and stakeholder feedback
* Develop and document user flows, wireframes, prototypes and high‑fidelity interfaces
* Implement responsive, reusable front‑end UI components using HTML, CSS and JavaScript frameworks (ReactJS and/or Angular)
* Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards in both design and code
* Plan and conduct usability evaluations, incorporating findings into actionable interface improvements
* Collaborate closely with user researchers, designers, developers and business stakeholders
* Translate usability testing insights into practical design and development enhancements
* Advocate for best‑practice user‑centred and accessible design within delivery teams
* Support and coach developers on usability and front‑end implementation considerations
Required Skills and Experience
* Demonstrated experience designing and implementing UI within an existing style guide or design system
* Strong hands‑on experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and modern frameworks such as ReactJS and/or Angular
* Proven ability to communicate design rationale clearly and influence diverse stakeholders
* Experience working collaboratively to translate usability research into UI improvements
* Strong knowledge and practical implementation of WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility requirements
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Experience using prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD or Axure
* Ability to rapidly prototype, test and iterate designs in agile environments
* High attention to detail in visual design and interface consistency
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. UX/UI Design, Human Factors, Computer Science, ICT, Psychology, Interaction Design, Web Development)
