School Overview
Yass High School is an inclusive, comprehensive and growing school close to Canberra with an enrolment of 565, 11 % of whom are Aboriginal. The school benefits from strong community relationships and offers a personalised success pathway for every student. New facilities include a STEM building (2021) and a new school hall (2023). A Trade Centre provides vocational courses (Metals, Timber, Hospitality) and an Agriculture farm supports learning in animal management and horticulture. The Support Unit comprises three Learning Hub classes and a Supported Learning Centre, and stage 5 pathways programmes help students transition to the workforce.
Selection Criteria
* Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Mild Intellectual Disability.
* Demonstrated ability to create a positive learning environment through effective classroom management and student wellbeing initiatives.
* Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, school learning support officers, support agencies and the wider community.
* Demonstrated ability to design and teach quality, differentiated educational programs and develop Personalised Learning Support Plans and Behaviour Management Plans for students with a wide range of individual learning needs, while providing a culture of high expectations for all students in a multistage setting.
Conditions
* Unconditional full approval to teach is required. If you do not hold a full approval, you must commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this opportunity.
* Relocation Support Payment of $5,000 up to $8,000 will be available for eligible applicants.
* Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (conditions apply). The Bonus will be paid on a pro‑rata basis for permanent part‑time teachers and executive staff. The maximum available per position is $20,000, including any job‑share arrangements.
