Talent Right has partnered exclusively with TechSpan Building Systems, an established Australian design and construct company delivering high-quality steel building projects across industrial, commercial, and agricultural sectors.
With a strong pipeline of work and a collaborative team culture, TechSpan is entering a key phase of growth — and we're now seeking a capable Commercial Finance Manager to help lead that journey.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity that blends financial management with commercial contract oversight. The successful candidate will take ownership of contract administration as well as general financial management. You'll partner closely with project managers, estimators, and senior leaders to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and with strong commercial outcomes. It's an ideal role for an experienced finance manager who is commercially minded, confident with contracts, and ready to step into a senior leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors, ensuring risks are appropriately managed.
Prepare and report on Work-in-Progress (WIP), cash flow, and margin performance.
Support the CFO/Commercial Manager in financial forecasting, project costing, and commercial risk management.
Oversee progress claims, retentions, and variations to maximise profitability and cash flow.
Collaborate with project and operations teams to ensure contract compliance and financial accuracy.
Develop and improve reporting systems, controls, and best-practice commercial processes.
About You
You're an experienced commercial finance professional with a head for numbers and a sharp eye for detail. You understand how construction projects work — the contracts, the claims, the timing — and you can balance commercial insight with sound financial management. You'll thrive in a business that values initiative, collaboration, and long-term growth. You'll bring:
5+ years' experience in a finance role ideally within construction, engineering, or project finance.
A strong grasp of contracts, commercial negotiation, and financial reporting.
Proficiency with Xero and exposure to construction finance systems (Jobpac, ERP, etc.).
Advanced Excel and modelling skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
CA/CPA qualification or working towards (desirable).
What's in it for You
Competitive salary (commensurate with experience).
Defined career pathway as part of an upcoming leadership transition.
Flexible hybrid work options — based in Armidale, with consideration for candidates from Tamworth or surrounding regions.
Opportunity to make a lasting impact in a stable, growing construction business.
Supportive leadership team that values initiative, accountability, and growth.
