Pearl Expeditions operates M.Y. Paspaley Pearl — a 50-metre boutique expedition vessel carrying 30 guests through Australia's Kimberley, Papua New Guinea, Eastern Indonesia, and Borneo. Part of the Paspaley Group and guided by the philosophy Small Footprints. Infinite Horizons., we are expanding our resources in the expedition cruise sector and are looking for the right people to contribute to our business success.
About the role:
This role is highly demanding and suited to an individual who thrives on maintaining full responsibility for the machinery and systems under their care. A strong sense of ownership and the ability to work effectively within a small team environment are essential. The Chief Engineer position requires sustained focus, strong hands‑on capability, and a high level of technical competence. The vessel is equipped with a wide range of electrical and automation systems, requiring in‑depth knowledge and experience. The Chief Engineer reports directly to the Master and shore‑based technical support and is responsible for supervising the Motormen. Daily operations are intensive due to frequent mooring activities, routine maintenance, fault rectification, and regulatory compliance requirements.
The successful candidate must have a relevant trade qualification in Marine Engineering (STCW III/2) and at least 3 years of proven experience as a Chief Engineer on large yachts. They will need to have excellent diagnostics and fault-finding skills, be an excellent communicator, have complete understanding of maritime legislation relevant to local waters and a commitment to safety and quality standards.
