About the role
As an Environmental Specialist, you will act as a trusted technical advisor, providing specialist expertise to support the effective management of sensitive environmental components across the Council's complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
* Ensure environmental risks are proactively managed and compliance obligations are met across capital works projects, aligning outcomes with Council objectives, legislation and community expectations.
* Embed environmental considerations into project planning, design, procurement and construction to support sustainable and compliant project delivery.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders to support informed decision‐making and positive outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
* Extensive experience interpreting and applying environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and approval processes relevant to local government and major projects.
* High‐level specialist technical advice on environmental assessments, impact mitigation, restoration, ecology, contamination or related fields.
* Proven project management capability, including managing consultants, contractors, budgets and competing priorities.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, briefings and information suitable for the relevant stakeholder group.
* Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and influence outcomes across multidisciplinary internal and external teams.
* Ability to work effectively and demonstrate sound judgement in navigating environmental issues across a fast‐paced project delivery and political environment with competing deadlines.
* Degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, biological science or related discipline.
* Construction Induction Card and C‐class driver's licence.
