About the Role:
This is a Permanent Full-Time position at 76 hours per fortnight within the Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Unit, Banksia Ward.
The CNC is responsible for developing, maintaining, and evaluating the specialist bed-based program in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager. The CNC will demonstrate superior clinical skills and provide consultancy to implement specialist programs that uphold best practice nursing care and recovery standards.
Classification for this position is NP51, Grade 5 Year 1. The FTE base salary is $126,937 per annum, plus superannuation.
What you'll achieve:
The role involves collaborating with the NUM, Senior Psychiatric Nurse, and Psychiatric Nurse Consultant to develop a highly skilled workforce through mentoring, especially junior nurses or recent recruits.
Focus on nursing development to address priority issues related to vulnerable and high-risk consumers presenting with high-level needs.
While reporting to the Banksia NUM and Senior Psychiatric Nurse, the CNC will work as part of the inpatient team and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure clinical quality, risk management, and care standards for high-acuity, behavioral disturbance cases.
The CNC has significant responsibility for implementing Department of Health initiatives such as SAFEWARDS, mental health intensive care framework, and reducing restrictive interventions, aiming to improve consumer and carer experiences while maintaining safety.
The CNC provides high-level advice regarding these initiatives to the NUM and contributes to team planning, research, and development activities, including communities of practice coordinated by the Department of Health.
Your skills and experience:
* Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), managed through APHRA.
* Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, evidenced by a CPD record or PPP.
* Minimum of 5 years of full-time equivalent post-registration experience in mental health nursing, preferably in a CAMHS/CYMHS setting.
* Postgraduate qualification in mental health nursing or completion of a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program.
* Well-developed knowledge of the Victorian Mental Health Act (2014) and related legislation, policies, and strategic directions.

Banksia Ward provides acute adolescent mental health assessment and treatment for young people aged 13-18 years. It is a 16-bed ward with a specialist intensive care area. The multidisciplinary team works with young people and families to create supportive care plans and pathways to community.
