Job Title: TOOLMAKER (STARSHIP)
You will be part of an elite team building and improving the mechanical systems and tooling operations at our Starship manufacturing and launch facilities. Your direct contributions will be crucial to the success of the Starship program and all test flights and missions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Apply in-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to interpret blueprints at all assembly levels
* Creatively assemble and fabricate support equipment ranging from shelves to large machine structures
* Use expertise in rigging large, heavy, and imbalanced components using overhead cranes, gantries, mobile cranes, and other lifting devices
* Maintain all components in optimal condition during the assembly and disassembly
* Translate metrology data from inspection reports to final machined surfaces
* Solve unpredictable field problems through creative modifications
* Perform manual milling and turning operations as needed for project build
* Apply innovative solutions through the use of field machining equipment
* Ensure safe operations while meeting SpaceX quality standards
* Maintain an organized environment that retains maximum utility for all team members
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or equivalency certificate
* 1+ year of professional experience working in one or more of the following areas: Toolmaker, millwright, mechanic, boilermaker, machinist
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Experience with millwright operations
* Experience in metrology, machining, welding technology, or tooling
* Completion of an accredited skilled trade apprenticeship program
* Welding skills in cutting, fitting, stick, TiG, and MiG on semi-exotic materials
* Understanding of the manufacturing process of large structures from concept to completion
* Ability to visualize 3-D space and integrate complex geometries on both large and small fabrications
* Manual inspection skills using conventional tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and height gauges
* Application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) discretion relative to the assembly's function
* Machining skill test
* Software proficiency to observe, analyze, evaluate, and communicate pertinent information
* Demonstrated leadership, dependability, and craftsmanship
* Adaptability to a dynamic work environment with a positive attitude
* Problem-solving skills using critical thinking and drawing upon previous mechanical expertise
* Maintenance of the highest level of safety on the jobsite and proposing new ideas for working safely and effectively in new locations and changing environments
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Willingness to work overtime and weekends based on operational needs
* Ability to work off-shift hours on a rotational or permanent basis
* Physical ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, stoop, bend, crawl, walk, maneuver in tight spaces, and stand for extended periods
* Ability to work at elevated heights
* Ability to work in outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain
