This opportunity suits an experienced Australian Government finance professional who understands statutory reporting, appropriations and the realities of whole-of-government financial accountability.
The role sits within a central finance function of a federal government regulator that has scaled rapidly in recent years. As Assistant Director, you will lead a small team responsible for external financial reporting and compliance with Australian Government requirements. You will work closely with senior leaders and central agencies, providing accurate financial data and clear commentary during high-profile reporting cycles.
Success in this role means confidence with accounting standards, budget processes and disclosures, and the ability to guide others through complex requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading preparation of annual financial statements and supporting audit processes
* Managing financial inputs for MYEFO, PAES, PBS, Additional Estimates and Senate Estimates
* Oversight of appropriations, CBMS updates and funding instruments
* Providing balance sheet and financial commentary to support executive and parliamentary reporting
* Ensuring integrity of the general ledger, fixed assets and lease accounting
* Maintaining strong internal controls, reconciliations and documentation
* Coaching APS6 staff and supporting capability uplift across the team
This role will suit someone who brings:
* Demonstrated Australian Government financial reporting experience
* Strong working knowledge of PGPA Act requirements, Department of Finance guidance and accounting standards
* Hands-on experience with CBMS and budget measures
* Confidence working with TechnologyOne and advanced Excel-based reporting models
* The ability to lead without micromanaging and support a collaborative team culture
Canberra is strongly preferred due to team location, with Parramatta or Brisbane considered for the right candidate. Hybrid work is supported in line with current APS settings.
