Job Description
Lance Heyden Vet clinic Lance Heyden Vet Clinic located in St Lucia, QLD is seeking a qualified and experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our professional clinical team on a full-time basis. The successful applicant will assist Veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures and provide high-quality care to animals under treatment or temporarily housed within the clinic, while providing clinical assistance to Veterinarians during medical and surgical procedures. In this role, you will be responsible for duties including: Providing attentive care to animals receiving treatment or recovering within the veterinary facility, ensuring their comfort, safety, and wellbeing at all times.
Safely restraining and positioning animals to facilitate thorough examination, diagnostic procedures, and treatment by the Veterinarian. Preparing consultation and surgical areas prior to procedures, ensuring all required instruments, materials, and equipment are appropriately set up. Cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilising surgical instruments, examination tables, and medical equipment in accordance with infection control standards.
Assisting during surgical and medical procedures by supplying instruments and providing hands-on clinical support as directed. Supporting the administration of anaesthesia and oxygen during surgical operations, including observing animals for stability and reporting any irregularities. Monitoring animals during post-operative recovery, placing them in appropriate holding areas or cages, and regularly assessing their condition to ensure safe recovery.
Administering medications, treatments, and therapeutic care under the direction of a registered Veterinarian. Performing routine health checks such as monitoring vital signs, appetite, hydration, and behaviour of animals under care. Conducting basic in-house laboratory procedures, including preparing samples and assisting with diagnostic testing where required.
Maintaining accurate patient records, updating treatment notes, and ensuring compliance with clinical documentation standards. Managing inventory of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and consumables, including monitoring stock levels and recording usage. Providing pet owners with practical advice regarding animal health, nutrition, preventative care, and post-treatment management.
Assisting in the preparation, delivery, and review of animal care education programs and informational materials for clients. Undertaking reception and administrative duties as required, including scheduling appointments, responding to client enquiries, processing payments, and completing general clerical tasks. Qualification & experience Relevant qualification equivalent to AQF Certificate IV or Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.
Minimum 1–2 years relevant full-time veterinary nursing experience Strong animal handling and restraint skills Strong work ethic Be committed to providing high standard of clinical care Excellent customer service skills and communication skills Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
