About the Role:
As the Environmental Manager for the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) project, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring environmental and heritage compliance across one of Tasmania’s most significant infrastructure developments.
Acting as the key interface between regulatory frameworks and on-ground project delivery, you will lead all facets of environmental performance to ensure contractual, legislative, and community obligations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Compliance
- Lead the implementation of environmental strategies in alignment with NWTD project milestones and GenusPlus Group policies.
- Coordinate with Traditional Owners, government regulators, landowners, and stakeholders to ensure culturally respectful and legally compliant practices.
- Secure and manage relevant environmental approvals for various stages of the project.
- Manage and liaise with external specialists, including archaeologists, anthropologists, and ecologists.
- Attend and contribute to site surveys, stakeholder meetings, and inspections to support field-level compliance.
- Identify and mitigate risks, resolving disputes or issues that arise in collaboration with senior leadership.
Operational Support
- Maintain accurate documentation and records of environmental activities.
- Monitor on-site practices, ensuring alignment with project-specific environmental approvals and obligations.
- Provide input into planning submissions, environmental reports, and council development applications.
- Deliver training and technical guidance to project teams and subcontractors on environmental protocols.
Leadership & Collaboration

- Support the implementation of SHEQ standards through active involvement in toolbox talks, inspections, and audits.
- Drive continuous improvement in environmental processes across the NWTD project.
Skills and Experience Required:
- 5-10 years’ experience in environmental and/or cultural heritage roles, ideally in infrastructure, utilities, or resources sectors.
- Demonstrated understanding of Tasmanian, Federal, and Local environmental legislation and Indigenous cultural heritage requirements.
- Experience managing compliance obligations across large-scale construction or transmission projects.
- Proven ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Traditional Owner groups and Indigenous stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and risk management skills.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Proficient in environmental monitoring tools, reporting platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Cultural Heritage Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience on linear infrastructure or transmission line projects.
- Familiarity with Tasmanian land use and Indigenous community consultation protocols.
