Primary objective
To provide high level advice, executive level support and activity coordination to the Chief Fire Officer of the Northern Territory
Fire and Rescue Service to ensure business efforts contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of Northern Territory Fire and
Rescue Service objectives.
Context statement
This position supports the Chief Fire Officer through the provision of high level professional administrative and business support.
This includes the management of office functions and administrative services ensuring day-to-day tasks are completed.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Produce Chief Fire Officer briefings, identifying and highlighting potential organisational risks and prospective opportunities to
establish community partnerships that support the agency’s overall goals and contribute to a safer Northern Territory.
2. Manage and coordinate the Chief Fire Officer’s time and commitment obligations, ensuring strategic meetings and events are
appropriately prioritised and where there is a conflict, ensuring suitable alternative arrangements.
3. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Chief Fire Officer, including the supervision of the AO4 Executive
Assistant to the Chief Fire Officer.
4. Monitor the timely preparation and quality assurance of ministerial correspondence.
5. Consolidate input to coordinate and prepare professional speeches, presentations and briefings on behalf of the Chief Fire
Officer where a whole of Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service approach is required.
6. Provide comprehensive, accurate and timely advice, support and recommendations to the Chief Fire Officer’s service areas to
ensure compliance and consistency in regard to service standards, delivery and expectations.
7. Develop and foster productive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective identification and
delivery of sound advice and support that enhances delivery of business activity and achieves agency outcomes.
8. Respond to all enquiries, complaints, concerns and requests directed to the Chief Fire Officer from members of the public, such
that the identified issue is resolved by appropriate referral or through personal carriage of the matter.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in providing effective leadership and management to monitor performance and evaluate change.
2. High level experience in the development of ministerial correspondence, reports, speeches and discussion papers for senior
management and executives.
3. Sound knowledge of Parliamentary, Cabinet, Legislative and Ministerial processes and associated documents.
4. Proven experience in providing high level executive support and advice across all levels of the public and private sector.
5. Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
6. Demonstrated strategic, conceptual and analytical skills and demonstrated capacity to develop practical, innovative solutions to
complex issues.
7. Ability to maintain a high level of political awareness and confidentiality and demonstrated experience operating in a highly
sensitive and cross-cultural environment.
Desirable
1. An understanding or the ability to obtain an understanding of the structure and function of the Northern Territory Fire and
Rescue Service as a part of the Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services.
