ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

The SEWB program provides holistic support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that are experiencing social, emotional, cultural, and mental health challenges. Ensuring the community is encouraged, empowered and supported.

Our program helps community identify their strengths, reduce their worries and begin to set goals that can achieve positive changes in their life. In essence our role is to support clients to attain cultural connection, self-empowerment, and healthier and happier lives through self-determination.

The Social, Emotional Wellbeing program main aim and focus is:

- Connection to spirit, spirituality and ancestors
- Connection to land
- Connection to culture
- Connection to community
- Connection to family and kinship
- Connection to mind and emotions
- Connection to body

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

To provide individual early years support and co-ordinate group support of the wider Social, Emotional, Wellbeing Team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Work closely with our SEWB case workers.
- Support the health and wellbeing of our early year’s community aged 5-12 in line with our SEWB Framework.
- Establish appropriate and effective working relationships with clients, maintaining professional boundaries.
- Provide basic admin/Set up support to the Peeneeyt Pootngeerang (Women’s group), Worhti Karreet (Men’s Group), Koornong Maarr (Youth Group).
- Support and facilitate Kooyang Maarr (Early Years Group).
- Undergo a certificate IV in Mental health and any further study as required
- Observe and report any changes in the client’s health, behavior, needs or circumstances to the Team Leader immediately, including any:
- Potential abuse or neglect
- OH&S; issues
- Near Misses

- Able to communicate with clients, management, and employees in an effective manner.
- Ability to act cooperatively, friendly, and reasonably to promote workplace harmony and team effectiveness.
- Write reports and correspondence in field of expertise.

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS/RESTRICTIONS

- Must comply with reference and qualification checks prior to employment (and present originals of qualification updates for copying and updating of training registers).
- Must be physically and mentally capable of carrying out duties of the position.
- Must comply with GAC’s Immunisation Policy, which mandates Covid-19, Flu, and various childhood vaccine preventable diseases.
- Able to pass and maintain:
- A National Police check (at the organisation’s expense).
- A Victorian Employee Working with Children Check (at the organisation’s expense).
- Other probity checks as may be mandated from time-to-time.
- Current Victorian Driver’s License.
