About the Position
Job Title: Pile Driver (Piling Operator)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent.
Location: Toowoomba, QLD 4350
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000
Position Overview
The position is responsible for operating specialised heavy machinery to create the foundational support for the solar panel arrays across large solar farm sites. Your main duties revolve around precisely installing thousands of piles or posts into the ground to ensure the structural stability and correct alignment of the photovoltaic (PV) racking systems, requiring high accuracy to meet project specifications and maximise energy output.
Key Responsibilities
The main duties of the Pile Operator include:
Specialised Equipment Operation
* Piling: Operate hydraulic, vibratory, or dedicated solar pile driving rigs (e.g., Gayk) to install metal or concrete foundation posts.
* Drilling: Conduct pre-drilling to facilitate pile installation in difficult ground conditions.
* Usage of 1100 CFM air compressor with their bar pressure settings and knowledge behind drill string set-ups and the difference
* Maneuvering: Safely and efficiently maneuver heavy rigs across large, uneven solar farm sites.
* GPS equipment: Working with Nasku GPS system and Trimble Base set-up
Precision and Quality Control
* Alignment: Work with GPS and survey control data to position piles with high accuracy, meeting strict project specifications for location, depth, and verticality/angle.
* Production: Maintain high daily production targets (often volume-based) to keep the foundation installation on schedule.
* Foundation Integrity: Conduct post-installation checks and perform necessary remediation (e.g., pile extraction, backfilling) to ensure structural integrity and compliance. Deep knowledge about Stabilised sand and concrete specification.
Safety, Maintenance and Compliance
* Pre-Start Checks: Perform mandatory daily pre-start and maintenance checks on the rig and associated equipment.
* Safety Adherence: Strictly follow all site-specific and industry safety regulations (OHS/WHS), including identifying and mitigating hazards like underground services.
* Reporting: Complete accurate daily log reports detailing production figures, equipment status, and maintenance issues.
* Basic Maintenance: Perform minor field adjustments and routine maintenance to minimise downtime.
Qualification and Experience Required
* At least 1 years' experience as a Pile Driver
* Australian Drivers Licence
* A Certificate III in a related field (Desirable)
* Have experience with utility scale solar farm construction (Desirable)
* Have experience with hydraulic pile drivers and crawler drills (Desirable)
