Role Description
We are seeking Forensic/Remedial Structural Engineers to undertake forensic field investigations and prepare detailed causation reports on building defects and failures relevant to the residential home insurance industry. The successful candidate will conduct structural inspections, analyse evidence, identify causes of damage, and provide practical remedial recommendations. Tasks include reviewing reports from insurers, loss adjusters, builders, and homeowners, and performing structural assessments and calculations, and delivering clear, defensible reports that support insurance claims and dispute resolution. Qualifications
* Relevant degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligibility highly regarded but not essential.
* Strong skills in forensic investigation, defect diagnosis, and causation analysis of structural and building issues. Experience in preparing detailed technical reports for the residential home insurance sector.
* Proficiency in Structural Analysis and Structural Engineering principles. Highly knowledgeable in Australian Standards (AS 3600 – Concrete structures, AS 3700 / 4773 – Masonry structures, AS 2870 – Residential slabs and footings, AS 1684 – Residential timber-framed construction, AS – Wind actions, AS 3740 / 4654 – waterproofing failures).
* Familiarity with construction methodologies and ability to prepare a scope of works for remedial repairs.
* Strong written communication skills, with the ability to explain findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders clearly.
* Prior experience in forensic or remedial engineering within residential insurance investigations is highly desirable.
