About the role: Our Client is looking for a temporary placement/backfill for a Strategic Planner – Strategic Land use. The Strategic Planner (Strategic Land Use) is responsible for the development of a range of complex strategic land use plans and projects designed to influence the longer-term direction and sustainability of the region. The Strategic Planner will be able to work with the legislation, policies and procedures to assist with Planning Scheme implementation and/or amendment. Responsibilities include but not limited too: Service Delivery - Responsible for the provision of accurate and efficient strategic planning processes, reports, assessments, advice and the maintenance of planning schemes and infrastructure charge regimes in the Council area. Technical Skills and Expertise - Understand, interpret, administer and comply with relevant legislation and Council policies applicable to the functions within the local government strategic land use unit. Information Delivery - Producing high standard reports, correspondence and advice to internal and external clients relevant to disciplines within the unit. Teamwork - Working collaboratively across the organisation, sharing knowledge and experiences. Identification of potential opportunities for innovation and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Council’s operations. It looks after community needs by maintaining roads, parks, libraries, waste services, water and sewerage systems, and local facilities. The council also makes planning and development decisions, supports local economic growth, delivers community programs, and represents the interests of residents in the region. Its goal is to provide safe, sustainable services and improve the quality of life for people living and working in the Central Highlands. To be successful you will have the following: • Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers licence. • Degree qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or relevant discipline from a recognised University. Desirable: • Experience in a local government planning role, or role within the State government. • Experience in the drafting or amending of planning schemes and key strategic documents. • Experience in developing and implementing community engagement plans. • Knowledge of conservation planning for the protection of historic buildings and sites of European or Indigenous origin.
