What you’ll be doing
The primary purpose of the Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.
Responsibilities

* Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
* Adept ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
* Adept written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team.
* Adept good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
* Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
* Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
Education and Career Progression
Education: Weekly education sessions including simulation, clinical skills, case reviews, and buddy shifts with FACEM. SRMOs are supported by EMET Lismore Hub providing access to multiple workshops including paediatric emergencies, procedural skills, ultrasound and airway management.
Career Progression: Following your SRMO year, you can progress to Emergency Medicine Training with opportunities to undertake 24 months accredited time across training stages 1 to 3, and training stage 4 at LBH ED, plus opportunities to rotate to ACEM accredited terms in Retrieval, Anaesthetics, ICU, Medical Education and Ultrasound.

Where you’ll be working
Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service. LBH is an acute regional referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people. It has a busy Emergency Department (40,000 presentations annually), ICU and Coronary Care Unit, plus Surgery, Paediatrics, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. LBH ED also supports Richmond Network hospitals including Ballina District Hospital and Casino Memorial District Hospital, and multiple outreach centres. LBH is an affiliated teaching hospital for medical students from several universities and supports Junior Medical Officers.
