The Role
As the successful applicant you will form an integral part of the Student Support Team, assisting in the day to day running of Student Support, ensuring an effective and responsive service for students. This includes supporting individuals and groups of students with mental health, behavioural, social, and emotional support needs on a daily basis.
The Student Support Officer will assist in the development and introduction of systems, intervention strategies and alternative programs that provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff. You will assist with the development and running of small group social and emotional learning and wellbeing programs.
As the Student Support Officer, you will develop supportive links between the student, family, school staff and other appropriate agencies in the community. You would assist with the implementation of a range of school attendance strategies; attend and provide supporting information to team meetings, case conferences, and other intervention processes.
As a Student Support Officer, you will undertake a wide range of administrative and student focused support services within the school, maintain information and record systems and collate and prepare information used in case conferences and to develop strategies and student support programs.
The Student Support Officer will also assist the college Executive and Leadership Team in crisis response strategies, as required.
The Ideal Applicant
As the successful applicant you will ideally have a friendly, positive and caring attitude and a flair for working with young people to promote excellence within our school. With your exceptional interpersonal skills, you will ideally develop relationships across the school and wider community, maintain professional links between the student, the family, the school and other appropriate agencies in the community, whilst maintaining confidentiality.
The successful applicant will ideally be highly organised and can prioritise tasks. With your reliability and flexible approach, you can meet deadlines, and be able to work at a fast pace with competing demands showing attention to detail.
Ideally, you will possess strong computer skills using various Microsoft Office and Department of Education databases, such as student records and management information systems that relate to attendance, good standing, uniforms, transfers and personal data. Having the ability to generate statistical, academic and Centrelink reports and letters, as well as being able to coordinate administrative tasks for the student services section will be highly regarded.
Previous experience working with youth mental health and the delivery of resilience programs would be highly desirable, as would training in Youth Mental Health First Aid, Gatekeeper and Trauma.
