About us
This service is doing seriously important work across Central Queensland; supporting over 250,000 people across Gladstone, Capricorn Coast, Rockhampton, Central Highlands and Banana. Big reach, real impact. Wherever people are on their mental health or recovery journey, this team is there to back them up.
Rockhampton is the hub of the action, home to the main inpatient facilities, while Gladstone brings its own support with a Step Up Step Down service. Translation: there's a whole network of care designed to meet people where they're at, not just where the system is.
What makes us special? It's all about teamwork. We collaborate with hospitals, community providers, and private services to genuinely support recovery, not just treat symptoms. It's connected, it's holistic, and it's focused on helping people move forward.
About the role
This role is all about real talk, real connection, and real impact. Your lived experience is your superpower. You'll use it to model recovery, showing others that progress is possible and helping them find their own path forward.
Day to day, you'll be connecting with consumers, carers, and staff; sharing insight, building trust, and helping people set goals that mean something to them. You'll support them to make changes, celebrate wins, and keep moving forward one step at a time.
You'll also step into a leadership role, mentoring peer workers and consumer companions, and helping grow a strong, supportive team culture. Add in running groups, delivering psychoeducation sessions, and creating safe spaces for people to share and learn. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community organisations, help shape services through feedback, and even bring the consumer voice into recruitment decisions.
About you
* Strength-based, person-centred, hopeful. You know how to meet people where they're at and help them move forward.
* You're a natural communicator. Whether it's one-on-one or in a team, you connect easily and know how to work alongside others without the awkwardness.
* You know how to keep it professional. Strong boundaries, good judgement, and respect for everyone in the space.
* You're an advocate at heart. You speak up for consumers and aren't afraid to push for better, more meaningful services.
* And most importantly, you're willing to share your lived experience in a way that inspires, supports, and makes a difference for both consumers and staff.
Under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, it is a genuine occupational requirement of these positions to have a personal lived experience (public or private).
