What You'll Do
Woolworths Meat is seeking an experienced General Manager of Sourcing to take on a critical leadership role. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the entire strategy and process for sourcing and purchasing both livestock and supplementary (boxed) meat volumes to support the retail and B2B sectors. This senior position is focused on developing a market-leading sourcing plan, balancing the needs of all go-to-market channels, delivering high-quality supplier advocacy (farmers and processors) and driving sustainability initiatives, and ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality products for customers.
A key part of the job involves building and maintaining strong, trust-based relationships with livestock producers and processors, requiring a deep understanding of the domestic and global meat industry. You will handle all procurement activities, including price negotiation and contract management, while making strategic decisions to balance costs, quality, and supply chain efficiency. You will also develop stronger systems and processes to support consistency in sourcing approaches, provide constructive feedback to suppliers and maintain integrity in sourcing steps.
Internally, the General Manager will be responsible for leading and developing a broad sourcing team including livestock buyers, supplementary stock buyers, sustainability and buying support team, fostering a positive and collaborative culture. You will work closely with other divisions to ensure the sourcing strategy aligns with overall business objectives and continuously improves the quality of the meat delivered to retail customers.

As an expert in meat standards leadership, you possess a deep understanding of the entire agricultural value chain, ensuring a seamless flow of products from farm to market. Your strong sourcing and procurement capabilities are proven within the agricultural industry, with a track record of balancing cost and quality when sourcing commodity products. You navigate the complexities of the trading environment, considering the impacts of domestic and international volatility and consistently achieving successful outcomes.
Your strategic approach is underpinned by robust risk management. You proactively mitigate issues such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and price fluctuations, while maintaining a focus on food safety, environmental stewardship, and ethical labour practices. As a champion for sustainability, you balance economic goals with animal welfare and environmental responsibility, using strategic planning and stakeholder engagement to drive meaningful change. This commercial and ethical orientation enables you to enhance profitability and customer value while maintaining competitive advantage.
A transformational leader, you have a proven ability to lead complex, distributed teams, managing leaders in both face-to-face and hybrid environments. You excel at articulating a compelling vision that inspires a team around fresh produce, unlocking partnerships and delivering superior customer and commercial results. You lead through complexity by simplifying challenges and applying holistic, long-term systems thinking to identify opportunities and risks.
