About Us
Based in Canberra, we are a proudly 100% Australian-owned designer & manufacturer of light-gauge steel wall frames, floor joists and roof trusses. From our purpose-built facility in Canberra we combine world award software and advanced automatic machines to deliver precision-engineered, termite-proof, non-combustible framing systems backed by BlueScope’s 50-year warranty. Every stick of steel we produce is "blue in heart", helping builders across the country build faster, greener and smarter.
The Role
At present, we need an energetic, hands-on Production Engineer (Automation & Control) to keep our automatic lines running faster, safer and more accurately than ever. You will own the control architecture of our roll-forming, punching, cutting and material-handling equipment, drive continuous-improvement projects and act as the technical mentor to our production technicians and workers.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation, programming, and maintenance of advanced automatic machines used in light-gauge steel framing production (e.g., roll-formers, punching/cutting machines).
- Design, develop, and troubleshoot control systems that govern the automated production line.
- Bridge the gap between the design software (engineering models) and the physical manufacturing process executed by the machines for seamless data flow and machine control.
- Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and quality issues, and implement improvements to increase throughput, reduce waste, and enhance the precision of the "precision-engineered" components.
- Implement and monitor quality control measures throughout the automated process to ensure components meet standards required for BlueScope’s 50-year warranty.
- Calibrate equipment to maintain tolerances and ensure products are "termite-proof" and "non-combustible" as specified.
- Provide rapid response to machine faults or control system errors to minimize downtime in the "purpose-built facility.
- Provide training and support to production staff on operational procedures and safety protocols related to automated equipment.
- Participate in safety risk assessments related to machinery and control systems.
Requirements
- Engineering degree in Automation, Control Systems, or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of proven relevant experience in automation workplace.
- Ability to conceptualise and implement innovative system design solutions for production environments.
- Strong technical aptitude with a genuine passion for automation and a self-starter mindset.
- Team player with excellent communication skills and a strong willingness to learn.
