About the opportunity
At Bendigo Bank, we are committed to being Australia's bank of choice. We believe our success is driven by our people and our commitment to the communities we serve. A core part of that commitment is ensuring our cyber security is secure and our customers feel safe.
We're looking for a passionate and people‐focused Engineering Manager to guide our talented Cyber Defence & Protection team. Inspire, mentor, and create an environment where engineers can thrive. You will be at the heart of our security operations, owning the technical health of our services and empowering your team to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient solutions that protect our business and our customers. If you're passionate about building high‐performing teams and tackling complex security challenges, we want to hear from you!
In this role you'll get to...
* Lead, coach, and mentor a dedicated squad of cybersecurity engineers, championing their career growth and success.
* Act as the strategic Incident Commander during security events, guiding the team to resolve threats while removing roadblocks.
* Shape your team's roadmap to deliver innovative and reliable cyber defence solutions.
* Drive the continuous improvement of our security posture, from DevSecOps practices to learning from incidents.
* Foster a culture of psychological safety, trust, and continuous learning where every team member feels valued.
What you'll bring to the role
To be successful in the role you will have:
* Recruiting, mentoring, and fostering a high‐performing cybersecurity engineering team, ensuring their growth and engagement.
* Leading security incident responses strategically as Incident Commander, coordinating technical experts and removing roadblocks without direct technical involvement.
* Masterfully translating complex technical details into clear, business‐focused updates for executive leadership and managing stakeholder communication during crises.
* Driving learning from incidents through blameless post‐mortems and building strong, collaborative relationships across the organization.
Benefits
We'll offer a range of benefits designed to support work‐life balance and professional growth:
* Hybrid work options, flexible hours, and a compressed work week.
* Health and well‐being support, including discounted gym memberships, private health insurance options, and an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for you and your immediate family.
* Learning opportunities such as our corporate university 'BEN U' or external providers of your choice.
* Other perks such as discounts on banking and a supportive, diverse culture.
