Offer description

About us

Dungog Shire Council supports a growing rural community of almost 10,000 residents in the vibrant and picturesque Hunter region of NSW. We are committed to ensuring the ongoing and consistent delivery of local services that are valued by our community and will be for generations to come.

It is anticipated that our population will grow by 1.9% per annum over the next 20 years as per the Hunter Regional Plan, higher than the state growth average. With an additional 2,400 dwellings to be provided over the term of the Hunter Regional Plan, Dungog will be the second fastest growing LGA in the Hunter Region.

Dungog is ideally located just over an hour north of Newcastle and within close proximity to a range of other regional hubs in the Hunter Valley, such as Maitland and Raymond Terrace. We have an enviable lifestyle with easy access to World Heritage listed sites, such as Barrington Tops National Park.

Your next opportunity

We are looking for a strategic and community-focused Manager Recreation, Facilities and Community Services to help shape and lead Council's new community-facing service portfolio as part of Phase 2 of Council's organisational restructure. Reporting to the Director Infrastructure & Assets, this role will establish and embed a clear service and governance framework for recreation, facilities and community services whilst integrating planning, asset stewardship, service delivery and partnerships into a cohesive, future-focused business unit.

This is a unique opportunity to shape how Council works with its communities, strengthening the connection between facilities, services and wellbeing outcomes. You will lead long-term recreation and facilities planning, modernise service models, strengthen governance and compliance, and build a positive, capable and engaged team. Through strong leadership and collaboration, you will help embed a culture that is inclusive, customer-focused, accountable and committed to delivering meaningful outcomes for the community.

Essential selection criteria includes:

* Tertiary qualifications in recreation management, facilities management, community services or a related discipline, combined with extensive experience providing strategic leadership across complex community-facing service portfolios.
* Demonstrated capability in developing and implementing long-term strategies, service models and governance frameworks for recreation, facilities and community services aligned to community needs and expectations.
* Strong strategic financial, asset and risk management expertise, including long-term investment and renewal planning, budget governance and contracts and service provider oversight.
* Highly developed people leadership and stakeholder engagement capability, including building inclusive teams and working effectively with community groups, service partners, Councillors, regulator and government agencies.
