THE ROLE
As a solicitor in the Civil Litigation, Administrative Law and Disability team, you will be required to provide, with minimal supervision, timely legal advice and representation for key stakeholders that is strategic and practical. Your advice must be clear, accurate and outcomes-focused. Your legal work will include advising on a broad range of legal issues, statutory interpretation and administrative law matters. You will provide advice and manage sensitive litigation matters including matters under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997, discrimination complaints and personal injury claims. The role requires the exercise of sound judgment, initiative and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues across the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (the department).
Accountabilities Include
* Provide well-reasoned legal advice, briefings and correspondence.
* Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver client focused legal services.
* Instruct in litigation involving the department in a wide range of courts and tribunals.
* Prepare briefs and instruct counsel and contracted solicitors on the State Government Legal Panel.
