Job Description
A Mid Artist - FX is responsible for the development of sophisticated and technically demanding visual effects projects. Working with senior FX artists, FX Leads, and technical directors, they oversee tasks such as basic simulation setup, complex shot execution, and rendering to deliver high-quality and impactful visual effects.
Mid Artist - FX contribute significantly to creative problem-solving and pipeline optimization and collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of effects into the final production.
Key Responsibilities Create a wide range of simulations and render visual effects such as explosions, fire, smoke, weather effects, and magical spells. Collaborate with seniors, leads, and supervisors to implement effects. Troubleshoot technical issues related to effects and propose creative solutions to achieve desired visual results. Optimize effects for performance while maintaining high visual fidelity across different platforms. Ensure timely execution of assigned tasks and deliver completed shots according to schedule. Follow established pipelines and processes to ensure efficient workflow and integration. Perform any other duties as assigned by your manager or a Key Business Relationship. Measure Of Success Consistently meeting task/shot/sequence/project deadlines while maintaining a high standard of visual quality and technical execution. (Honest, Focused, Innovative, Inclusive) Qualifications Technical & Soft Skills: Proficient understanding of physics, motion, and natural phenomena to create realistic effects - Required Previous experience in a VFX environment - Required Familiarity with scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, C#) for tool development and automation - Preferred Foundational knowledge of shader programming and other technical aspects of FX development - Preferred Preferred Software Knowledge Knowledge of applications used in FX (Houdini) - Proficient Knowledge of applications used in lighting (Katana and Houdini) - Proficient Knowledge of applications used in Compositing (Nuke) - Proficient Knowledge of rendering engines (Renderman, or equivalent) - Proficient Knowledge of Linux-based environment - Foundational MPC Knowledge definition Foundational knowledge: sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
Proficient knowledge: sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.
Advanced knowledge: advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
Expert knowledge: requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.
