Primary objective
The Business Manager provides strategic and operational leadership, advice and management support in the areas of finance, procurement,
administration, infrastructure and human resource management for non-teaching staff in a busy and demanding school environment,
including liaison with centralised service providers.
Context statement
NT Music School provides instrumental, ensemble and choral tuition, music education services and support, and events and programs to NT
government schools, at all stages of learning from Foundation to Year 12. Key activities include large-scale multi-school performances,
multi-school concert band, guitar-ensemble, strings and choral programs. This position is based in Darwin. Local travel using own vehicle
may be required (kilometre allowance payable).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and supervision to the school’s non-teaching staff, with a primary focus on financial management. This includes
performing and overseeing day-to-day financial operations such as budgeting, procurement, and expenditure control, as well as
delivering higher-level financial analysis, reporting, and strategic advice. The role also ensures effective administration, infrastructure
support, travel coordination, and classroom support services across the school.
2. Provide advice, or facilitate appropriate advice, on all corporate matters for school-based managers and staff.
3. Provide efficient and effective coordination of non-teaching staff training and recruitment in partnership with centralised service
providers.
4. Develop and implement corporate and business support services, including grants management systems and appropriate management
of internal controls.
5. Implement an ongoing program of continuous improvement for corporate support systems and processes including proactive data
collection, analysis and performance monitoring and reporting.
6. Liaise and negotiate with centralised service providers to coordinate delivery of business services and support achievement of school
and departmental strategic objectives.

Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to analyse and provide informed advice on a wide range of business support functions — including human
resources, travel, asset management, records management, and high-level financial considerations — to enable efficient and effective
program delivery.

functions — including payroll, accounts processing, and budget administration — while ensuring full compliance with legislative, policy,

3. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with an understanding of the complexities of cultures
and contexts present in the Northern Territory, and the ability to promote the effective interaction with all cultures and all levels of staff.
4. High level adaptability, flexibility and resilience including the ability to manage pressure and change in an environment undertaking
change, and to modify approaches to suit different people and situations.
5. Demonstrated experience in management of a service delivery team including management and coordination of staff, resources, records
and assets.
6. The ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality.
